Who is Shagun Sharma?

I have lived and worked in different areas across and outside of the GTA (Toronto, Markham, Etobicoke, Scarborough, and Vaughan, to name a few) which has influenced my frameworks to be client centered.

With the opportunities of working in these areas in different capacities, I've found that there is so much richness and history behind an individual, which is influenced by where they live, their upbring and through their self-concepts.

In a session with me, you can expect an environment that is productive, comfortable, at times humorous, supportive, and collaborative. Through collaboration, we can tailor and create a psychotherapeutic process that can be beneficial for you and result in more long-term influences, while also giving you a feeling of control and strength in your own narrative.

I enjoy working with individuals facing different challenges. Recently, I have been finding myself being drawn to generational trauma. I find that there are so many intersectionalities of generational trauma, which can help us untangle questions we have about ourselves and our identities and experiences.

I consider myself to be a BIPOC and 2SLGBTQI+ ally and I am very mindful of the challenge affecting marginalized groups, gender-based challenges, and cultural challenges.

To me, being a psychotherapist means being a professional that can help support others on their journey, while giving my client’s the space explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. I find your comfort and safety to be the utmost priority, while understanding that the first steps to therapy can be challenging.

Outside of sessions, you can often find me on walks, as I love being in nature, trying to find new music to listen to (recommendations are always welcomed) or playing videogames!

Framework and Approach

I work with children (12+), adolescents, and adults from various backgrounds and cultures. I have worked in various positions in the mental health field, such as: Crisis Counselling, Suicide Prevention, and Crisis Responder.  I have also been trained in various frameworks and continue to engage in trainings, workshops and courses. I believe I have an active responsibility to engage in learning opportunities to best support my clients.

My main frameworks are Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My overall approach is to guide and support the client as they reflect on events, people, and experiences that have contributed to their story.
